Dr. Hatem al-Haj
Raised in Alexandria, Egypt, he began his religious training at an early age and started delivering sermons at his local mosque at the age of 17. After completing his medical degree at the University of Alexandria, he migrated to the US when he was 22 to work on his United States Medical Licensing Examination. During this time, he also served as the Imam of Masjid al-Birr in Astoria, New York. He then completed his residency in pediatrics at the State University of New York (SUNY).Dr. Hatem continued his Islamic education, attaining an M.A. in Sharia from the American Open University, and a PhD in Sharia from Al-Jinan University in Lebanon, graduating with the highest honors for both degrees. Dr. Hatem was also the Deen for Mishkah University’s English program. He has published various academic works in both Arabic and English including and is currently serving as a religious director of Masjid Wali, in Edison NJ.
Dr. Abu Zayd
Dr. Abu Zayd holds a degree in Islamic studies as well as traditional licenses (Ijazah) in the ten modes of Qurʼānic recitation, books of hadith and many Islamic texts. He is the author of Childrens Bequest, a textbook on the science of Tajweed based upon a translation of the Arabic classic Tuhfat ul Atfal, and teaches via the Quran Literacy Institute in Somerset, NJ, a subsidiary of the Islamic Learning Foundation. He was a founding member of Young Muslims and is a long-standing member of ICNA, a grassroots national organization.
Mohammad El Shinawy
Shaykh Mohammad Elshinawy is a dedicated student of knowledge from Brooklyn, New York. Having gravitated towards the studies of Qur’an, Hadith, Fiqh, and Aqeedah, and being fluent in both Arabic and English, he has used his oratory skills to teach Islam to the community, thereby becoming one of the most prominent callers to Islam in New York City. Mohammad is a translator for Mishkah University, in charge of the Dawah department for Muslims Giving Back, and is the translator at the annual AMJA conference.
Mufti Muhammad Ibn Muneer
Muhammad Ibn Muneer also known as Mufti is a young and dynamic speaker born and raised in Philadelphia. After completing his education in Philadalphia, Mufti went on to the University of Madinah to pursue his Islamic education. Mufti completed his masters in Hadith and is currently pursuing his PhD. Despite his concentration in Hadith, Mufti has a strong passion to teach Fiqh. Mufti’s classes are known to be very engaging, interactive, and allow for a lot of discussion and Q&A. Mufti has had the opportunity to study under many of the prominent sheikhs of our time, from them is the al-’Allamah Shaykh Abdul Muhsin al-Abbad, may Allah preserve him.
Shaykh Saad Tasleem
In his past life, Shaykh Saad was the lead singer of a punk rock band, and used to snowboard and skateboard, but he’s still rocking his Converse sneakers like a boss! There’s probably nobody better than him to understand the plight of Muslim youth in the face of today’s pop culture pressures. Shaykh Saad studied Art History, Modern Art, Graphic Design, and Psychology at the University of Maryland. He started his Islamic education at IIASA in Fairfax, VA. He then went on to study in the Islamic University of Madinah where he dedicated himself to the study of Islamic Sciences. He graduated with a Bachelor’s from the Faculty of Shariah, University of Madinah. Shaykh Saad is currently an instructor at Al Maghrib institute.
Imam Shadeed Muhammad
Imam Shadeed completed his diploma in Arabic and graduated from the school of Hadith in Madinah. Imam Shadeed has been known to tackle social issues effecting Muslims in urban societies, especially marriage. Imam Shadeed has also translated many classical Arabic works into the English Language including The Role of the Woman in Rectifying her Community by Muhammad Ibn Salih Al Uthaymeen, The Six Fundamental Principles” by Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhab, and The Virtues, Conditions and Obligations of Salat by Salih Al Fawzan. Imam Shadeed has published many books including the Rudiments of Wudhu, the struggle against silence, and the audacity of Ignorance. Imam Shadeed is the director of Rawdwah.org, an excellent resource for obtaining Islamic Knowledge.
Sheikh Shakiel Humayun
Shaykh Shakiel Humayun was born and raised in New York City. He graduated from Baruch College with a BBA in Business Administration. He then completed post graduate studies at the Umm-ul-Qura University in Makkah al-Mukarramah receiving an Associate’s Degree with honors. He continued his studies at the College of Shariah at Umm-ul-Qura University. During his stay in Makkah, he had the opportunity to benefit from many scholars. He has been active in the field of dawah and teaching in the U.S. for over 13 years. Sr. Suzy Ismail
Suzy Ismail is currently a Visiting Professor at DeVry University in North Brunswick, New Jersey and at DeVry University Online. She is also the curriculum developer and lead instructor at CML a nonprofit social platform that focuses on strengthening marriage, family, and community life. She received her Bachelor’s in English, Communication and Middle Eastern Studies, her Master’s in Communication and Information Studies, and attended the School of Communication at Rutgers University as a doctoral student in the field of Intercultural Organizational Communication. She specializes in presenting a range of communication seminars and workshops at major corporations, conferences and events that address issues such as marriage, divorce, unity, youth and women empowerment, and cultural and religious diversity in the workplace. Since 1999, she has been teaching, speaking and writing professionally on a national and international level. Suzy has been an active officer on her children’s school Board of Directors for the past six years and serves on several other non-profit boards as well.
Dr. Johnathan AC Brown
Jonathan Brown is the Alwaleed bin Talal Chair of Islamic Civilization in the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, and he is the Director of the Alwaleed bin Talal Center for Muslim Christian Understanding. He received his BA in History from Georgetown University in 2000 and his doctorate in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations from the University of Chicago in 2006. Dr. Brown has studied and conducted research in countries such as Egypt, Syria, Turkey, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, South Africa, India, Indonesia and Iran.
Sh. Joe Bradford
Joe Bradford is an American scholar of Islam, instructor, entrepreneur, and ethical investments advisor. He holds a Master of Islamic Law from the Islamic University of Medina. He regularly lectures on topics such as Islamic law, legal theory, financial ethics, and thought.
Daniel Haqiqatjou was born in Houston, Texas. He attended Harvard University where he majored in Physics and minored in Philosophy. He completed a Masters degree in Philosophy at Tufts University. Haqiqatjou is also a student of the traditional Islamic sciences. He writes and lectures on contemporary issues surrounding Muslims and Modernity.

Ustaadh Kareem Hassan
Ustadh Kareem Hassan was born and raised in New York City, and currently resides in Long Island, New York. He graduated from St. John’s University with a Doctorates Degree in Pharmacy in 2011. He began his formal Islamic studies at the Foundation for Knowledge and Development in 2010 with the launch of the Associate’s Degree Program in Arabic and Islamic Studies. After 5 years of continuous study, Ustadh Kareem graduated the FKAD ADP program with high honors in both Arabic and Islamic Studies. Currently, he is a lead instructor for FKAD’s ADP program, a curriculum developer and lecturer for FKAD’s Arabic 360 program and a khateeb and lecturer throughout the NYC Metro area.
In addition, Ustadh Kareem has a passion for community development and is a part of Middle Management at NYC Muslim Center as well as the director of the NYCMC expansion project. He is also a co-founder of The Hatebusters, a National Anti Islam-Hate Campaign. Currently, he is continuing his Islamic Studies directly under Shaykh Shakiel Humayun.
Shaykh Abu Summayah
Br Abu Sumayyah is a Puerto Rican revert who accepted Islam in 1998. He is a graduate of Mishkah University and has completed his BA in Islamic studies. He has received training in areas such as Islamic aqeedah, Qur’an, fiqh, Islamic history, hadeeth, methodologies of dawah, and many other sciences. From 2006 – 2012, he served as the Vice President for Islamic D.O.O.R, the President and main lecturer for the Latino Muslims of Chicago, and he served as the office Manager and religious chairman for the Muslim Association of Greater of Rockford. In 2014, he began a NJ chapter for IslamInSpanish whose main objective is to disseminate Islamic knowledge in the Spanish language. He is also very active in Dawah. In the summer of 2014 he traveled to Brazil as the leader of the WhyIslam team in order to give dawah during the world cup.
Sister Sumera Khan
Sister Sumera Khan is the cofounder of the Quran Literacy Institute and a teach of Islamic studies and Arabic based in NJ. She pursued formal Islamic studies in Syria, where she spent a number of years at the prestigious Abu Nur Institute in Damascus, graduating first in her class with a Diploma in Arabic and Islamic Studies. While in Damasucs she earned the admiration of her teachers and peers and served as the translator for the late Grand Mufti of Syria in the sisters classes. She has memorized Qur’an and received the coveted Ijazah of memorization from Shaykh Waleed Edres al-Meneese. She is currently a graduate student in Usul al Din at the American University for Islamic Sciences.
Sh. Ahmed Khater
Shaykh Ahmed Khater is the founder of Zidni Islamic Institute. He was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a B.A. in Legal Studies, then pursued a second B.A. from Al-Azhar University in the Islamic Sciences and the Arabic Language. He received an M.A. from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley in Islamic Law, and is now a PhD student at the Graduate Theological Union in Islamic Law. He also holds a B.A. and an M.A. in Islamic Studies from the Islamic University of Minnesota. He has received ijazat (licenses) in various Islamic sciences, including ijazah to teach and narrate the Hanbali madhhab. He is a lecturer of Arabic and Islamic Studies at the Graduate Theological Union, Islamic University of Minnesota, Mishkah University, and was a lecturer of Arabic at the University of California, Berkeley. He gives sermons, lectures and classes at Berkeley Masjid in California, as well as at other mosques and universities. He also works with Al-Azhar’s Faculty of Islamic Studies in English to edit books and articles for the scholars of Al-Azhar.
Sh. Ammar Shahin
Shaykh Ammar Shahin is an instructor for Zidni Islamic Institute. He was born in Cairo, Egypt where he began his Islamic training at a young age under the supervision of his father who was the sheikh of their village. He memorized the Qur’an at the age of twelve in various modes of recitation. He continued his Islamic education, graduating from the Institute for Preparation of Preachers with a B.A. in Islamic studies and earning an associates degree from al-Forqan institute. He then traveled to the United States in 1999 where he earned his B.S. in Computer Engineering. He then returned to Egypt where he completed his Islamic education by studying with some of the top scholars in the country, receiving from them ijazaat (licenses) in the various Islamic sciences, including ijazah to teach and narrate the Shaafi’ madhaab. He also pursued a third B.A. at Al-Azhar University in the Islamic Sciences and Arabic language, and a fourth B.A. and an M.A. at the Islamic University of Minnesota in Islamic Studies where he is a PhD student. He has been an imam in various mosques across the United States, and currently he is the imam at the Islamic Center of Davis.
Sh. Navaid Aziz
Shaykh Navaid has a Bachelor’s in Islamic Law, with a specialization in Fiqh and Usul Al-Fiqh from the Islamic University of Madinah. Shaykh Navaid completed an Associate’s degree in Commerce and Social Sciences before heading to the illustrious Islamic University of Madinah. He went on to complete a diploma in the Arabic language as well as a Bachelor’s in Islamic Law, with a specialization in Fiqh and Usul Al-Fiqh. He is AlMaghrib’s Director of Public Relations and Instructor.
Dr. Islam Elfayoumi
Dr. Islam Elfayoumi is a medical doctor by profession and also a Hafidh of Qur’an. Developing a love and passion for the religion at an early age, Dr. Islam was active from an early age in his home community at the Islamic Center of Passaic County. Dr. Islam carried on this activism and took every opportunity he could to further his studies in the religion of Islam. Dr. Islam is a prominent speaker in the Tri-State area and has the ability to connect both to youth and also an older audience. Currently, Dr. Islam is assisting various central NJ communities in weekly Halaqa’s and also has a weekly Halaqa at ICPC.
Daniel Abdullah Hernandez
Daniel Abdullah Hernandez is the Imam of the Pearland Islamic Center and a spiritual guide of its Sunday school. He is the national spokesperson and Lecturer for IslamInSpanish. Abdullah Hernandez accepted Islam at NHIEC in 1999. He is a New Yorican who was blessed with embarking on the pursuit of learning Arabic and Islamic Sciences in Egypt. He currently studies with Mishkah University and with scholars in Madinah, Malaysia and in Houston. Imam Hernandez has Ijazah in several texts with their explanations including 40 Imam Nawawi, Baiquniyah, Matn Abi Shujaa and Hilia Talib Al Ilm.
